When a floor scrubber or sweeper goes down, it doesn't just stop cleaning — it stops your operation. A single machine out of service can mean overtime crews with mops, safety concerns on dirty concrete, or a warehouse floor that doesn't meet code. That's why we built our repair department around speed: most machines get diagnosed the same day you call, and in-warranty or not, we carry the common wear parts — squeegee blades, brushes, hoses, batteries — that cause the majority of breakdowns.
We service the following brands sold in Southern California, whether you bought it from us or somewhere else: Tennant, Factory Cat, Powerboss, Clarke, NSS, Tornado, Tom Cat, Windsor, Viper, Minuteman, Nobles, Alto, American-Lincoln, and Nilfisk-Advance. Walk-behind, ride-on, battery, propane, or diesel — if it's one of these brands, our technicians have worked on it.

Common floor scrubber & sweeper problems
Most breakdowns fall into a handful of patterns. Here's what's usually behind each one — and what our technicians check first.
Won't pick up water, or leaves streaks behind
The floor stays wet after a pass, or you see streaking instead of a clean, dry finish. This is the single most common service call we get.
Usually caused by a worn or torn squeegee blade, a clogged vacuum hose, a failing vacuum motor, or a recovery tank lid gasket that's lost its seal. We check all four before replacing anything, and restore full suction so floors dry streak-free.
Brushes or pads won't spin, or scrub weakly
The machine runs, but the brush deck barely moves — or floors still look dirty after a full pass.
Typically a brush motor, worn drive belt, worn-down pads, or a deck actuator that's stopped applying pressure. Bristle length under half of original is also a common, simple cause. We rebuild the scrub deck to restore full cleaning pressure.
Machine won't drive or self-propel
Ride-on or self-propelled walk-behind units that don't respond to the throttle, or move sluggishly.
Traction motors, drive controllers, throttle assemblies, and wiring faults are the usual suspects. We diagnose the full drive system rather than guessing at a single part.
Battery won't hold a charge, or runtime has dropped
A machine that used to run a full shift now dies halfway through, or won't start at all after an overnight charge.
Could be the batteries themselves, a failing charger, or corroded terminal connections — all three produce the same symptom. We test each independently before recommending a replacement, so you're not paying for new batteries when it's really a $40 connector.
Electrical faults, dead controls, or intermittent shutoffs
Blown fuses, unresponsive buttons, or a machine that randomly cuts out mid-shift.
Fuses, switches, control boards, and wiring damage from years of wash-down use. We troubleshoot the electrical system safely, whether that's on-site or back in our shop.
Not laying down water or cleaning solution
The brushes run dry, or solution flow is weak and uneven across the scrub path.
Clogged solution lines, a failed solution valve or pump, or a gunked-up filter are the most common causes. We clear and rebuild the solution system end to end.

Preventive maintenance: the cheapest repair is the one you avoid
Most of the breakdowns above are preventable. A few minutes of daily care adds years to a machine's working life and keeps small issues from turning into expensive ones.
| Frequency | Task | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| After every use | Empty and rinse both tanks; leave lids open to air dry | Standing water breeds bacteria and corrodes tanks from the inside within 24 hours |
| Daily | Wipe squeegee blades and check for nicks or tears | Most blades can be flipped to the unused edge, doubling their life for free |
| Daily | Inspect brushes or pads for uneven wear or tangled debris | Uneven wear signals a deck height or pressure setting that needs adjustment |
| Weekly | Clean filters and strainers; inspect hoses for leaks | Clogged filters starve the brush and solution systems, causing weak cleaning |
| Weekly | Check squeegee alignment if streaking appears | A misaligned squeegee is often mistaken for a worn one — adjustment is free, blades aren't |
| Monthly | Inspect battery terminals and cables for corrosion | Corroded connections cause the same symptoms as a dying battery, but cost far less to fix |
| Monthly | Lubricate caster swivels and pivot points | Keeps steering responsive and reduces strain on drive components |
| Annually | Schedule a full professional service | Catches wear you can't see from a daily inspection, before it becomes a breakdown |
Frequently asked questions
How much does floor scrubber repair cost?
It depends entirely on what's wrong — a squeegee blade replacement might run under $100, while a drive motor rebuild costs significantly more. We diagnose first and give you a firm quote before any work begins, so there are no surprises on the invoice.
Do you repair machines on-site, or do I need to bring it in?
Both. For most facilities in Southern California, we dispatch a technician to your location as quickly as scheduling allows. If the repair needs shop equipment or a full teardown, we'll arrange pickup and delivery.
Do you only service machines you sold?
No. We repair the brands listed above regardless of where you purchased the equipment — Tennant, Factory Cat, Powerboss, Clarke, and more. We don't currently service Chinese or European-manufactured machines, as parts availability for those brands makes reliable repair difficult.
How long does a typical repair take?
Simple fixes like a squeegee, brush, or battery issue are often resolved same-day on-site. More involved repairs — drive systems, electrical faults, full rebuilds — are quoted with a specific turnaround once we've diagnosed the machine.
Can regular maintenance actually prevent breakdowns?
Yes — most of the repairs we perform trace back to a handful of preventable causes: standing water left in tanks, worn squeegee blades that were never flipped, or corroded battery terminals. A basic daily and weekly routine (see our maintenance schedule above) catches most of this before it becomes a service call.
Do you offer maintenance plans?
Yes, we offer scheduled maintenance plans for facilities that want to stay ahead of breakdowns rather than react to them. Contact us to discuss a plan that fits your equipment and usage.
