Description
Seventeen inches is an awkward size to source, which is the main reason this page exists. Pad drivers - pad holders, disc drivers, same thing - are usually stocked in even sizes, so a 17-inch deck leaves owners hunting. This is the American Lincoln part with its retainer included.
Size here is not a preference, it is a constraint. A driver smaller than the deck leaves an uncleaned band at the edge of every pass; one larger fouls the skirts and the deck housing. Pads then match the driver, not the deck - a 17-inch driver wants 17-inch pads, and cutting a larger pad down to fit throws it out of balance and chews the retainer.
The retainer is a wear item in its own right. If pads have started coming loose mid-shift or tearing at the center, replace the retainer before assuming the whole driver is finished.
