Where the 4D and 8D spread out sideways, the US AGM 12V240 goes up. Its footprint is only about 15 by 7 inches, but it stands 14.5 inches tall, so it suits compartments with limited floor space and plenty of vertical clearance. In a 12V string, that shape lets you pack 230Ah into an area that a low-profile battery of similar capacity would occupy far more of.
Despite the "240" in the name, the rated capacity is 230Ah at the 20-hour rate and 203Ah at five hours. Minutes of discharge are 145 at 75 amps, 205 at 56 amps and 522 at 25 amps. It weighs 140 pounds, which puts it a few pounds under the 143-pound 4D even though its 20-hour rating is 16Ah lower; you are paying for the compact footprint, not for extra capacity.
U.S. Battery lists the case as heat-sealed polypropylene and the BCI group as 921, with dual terminals standard. Sealed AGM construction means no watering and no free electrolyte to spill if the case is damaged.
