Description
Eight-volt batteries are an odd corner of deep-cycle: six in series make a 48V string, four make 32V. The US AGM 8V170 is the sealed AGM way to build that string, with a 5-hour rating of 149Ah and discharge times of 74 minutes at 75 amps and 120 minutes at 56 amps.
The case is polypropylene and carries the GC8 group size, measuring 10.2 inches long and 7.17 inches wide at 76 pounds. Six of them is roughly 456 pounds of battery, so the weight of the whole string matters as much as the weight of one battery when you plan the tray.
The tradeoff against a 6V AGM like the US AGM 2224 (224Ah at 20 hours, 69.4 lbs) is voltage per unit: you need six 8V batteries for 48V instead of eight 6V ones, which saves cell-to-cell connections and tray space. Terminals are dual.
